The Broads

So the chief executive of the Broads Authority has at last given up on trying to turn the Broads into a National Park. Thank goodness for that. Now the Broads will not be just for the conservationists but for people on their boats and those wishing to work and live in the area. How much of our money has been wasted on this exercise? A fortune I bet. I'll also bet that next spring he will be asking for more money from us ratepayers to make up a significant shortfall in funding. He will not say it is to pay for the failed bid, but will dress it up in other ways. A good chief executive after seeing his major plans be rejected would go, but that is not the fashion in public service now How sad.

The Pope

So now the Pope has upset some of the Islamic faith. What a strange religion that vilifies people for their words. I doubt that those on the streets of Pakistan had read what the Pope had said. Just like Mr Rushdie, they condemn without knowing what he had written. I have not read all of what the Pope said either, so cannot comment, but I would be surprised if he had insulted them. If he said that a previous speaker, hundreds of years ago, said that the Islamic faith is a violent one then I agree with him. It is not people from any other faith that are killing people in the name of that religion by suicide bombs. It is terrorists that glory in their faith that are killing people. Yes Christians have done it in the past. In the past is the key. Not now. We have progressed, so should they.

Blair again

I've just watched Blair telling the world he will be going in about a year. He did look stressed and if he had not ruined this Country and our democracy I would almost have felt sorry for him. Almost but not quite. I did note that he said that the Labour Party must remember the people of Britain and respect them. That is a bit rich coming from him. Did he respect us while taking free holidays? Did he respect us when deciding to send our people to Iraq and Afghanistan? No, and I do not respect him.

Well, will he go soon? It must be great to have friends. Will they be friends of Brown? Or of Johnson perhaps?

Blair or Brown?

If I were a Labour Party activist (which I'm not, nor ever will be) I would not be very happy with the Blair/Brown fight. As well as thinking what a waste of energy it all is, there is the point that no one has asked the Party Faithful what they want. We are to believe that when Blair goes, Brown will automatically take over (as the alleged agreement in the famous restaurant put it). Well, what if the Party activists do not want Brown? Do they get a vote? The members got a vote in the Conservative Party leadership change. Maybe it is all sorted for the Labour Party. No hassle just have Brown as agreed.

How to sort out a problem.

A friend showed me his copy of Saturday's Daily Mirror (not a paper I normally read). What a story. A farmer called Alan Roberts was fed up with Travelers setting up their caravans on his land, so he got his frontloader (a very big forklift) and lifted the Traveler's old banger and caravan over the hedge and off his land. What a success. The Traveler had said that Alan would have to wait for a Court Order and he would continue to park as there was nothing he could do about it. Well there was. Fantastic. Even more fantastic the Police, for once, have not interfered and Alan has him off his land. If only we had more stories of ordinary folk getting their own back on those lawless elements in our Country.

Could someone explain again to me why our solders are fighting and being killed in Afghanistan? Where is our interest. Afghanistan has never had a western democracy and I doubt if it ever will. They are not like us. I do not care if they want one or not, but I am sure that they do not. Not one of our men's lives is worth it. I also do not believe that what we are doing there will stop terrorism. I just want our men and women out of there.

Sacked ministers

How I just love sacked Labour Party Ministers like Charles Clarke of Norwich South. When he was part of the Government team, earning a nice little bit extra, Tony Blair was the best thing in the world. We had to listen to him both in the national and the local media, explaining how wonderful Tony and all his ideas and programs were. Now Clarke and other like Byers and Touhig, away from the gravy train of high wages and excessive perks, are now convinced that Blair is well past his best and must go. I wonder if they would be saying this if they were still in power? Still getting the high salaries, free houses and executive cars and drivers. No, you do not bite the hand that feeds you. If they are now giving us now their honest beliefs why did we not hear them before? Were they telling untruths or just treating us, the electorate with contempt. I'm afraid it is both.
